ABOUT WZL-RWTH AACHEN

The Werkzeugmaschinenlabor (WZL), founded in 1906, is the laboratory for machine tools and production engineering of the University Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH), located in Aachen, Germany.

Working in cooperation with the Fraunhofer IPT Institute, WZL is famous for the successful and progressive performance in research and innovation in production engineering.

Divided into three different areas, the research activities are not restricted to fundamental theories, but also extended to applied research in the Industrial context. Together with the Manufacturing Technology Institute – MTI of RWTH Aachen University, the WZL is the home of one of the most renowned gear research centers in the world, working on gear design and manufacturing as well as gear testing and simulation. The formation of the “Gear Research Circle”, in 1956, developed a strong integration between WZL and the gear industry, reaching more than 80 industrial partners today.
