ABOUT CCM-ITA

The Aeronautics Institute of Technology (ITA), established on January 16th, 1950, is a Higher Education Institution focused in the aeronautics sector.

The main mission of the Institute is to promote, through education, research and extension activities, the progress of science and technologies, as well as the formation of highly educated professionals for the aerospace sector.

The Competence Center in Manufacturing (CCM), founded in 1991, is a multidisciplinary laboratory of ITA´s mechanical engineering department. Since the beginning, CCM has developed applied research and integrated solutions in cooperation with Industries from different sectors. Most of the research are multidisciplinary projects through the areas of Manufacturing Processes, Automation, Metrology, Digital Manufacturing and Structural Analysis. As a segment of CCM, the Gear Innovation Group (GIE) was created in 2011, motivated by the Brazilian Industry demand for research on gear transmissions.

It consists of a dedicated research group continuously working on technologies for gears and transmission systems, and is, by its conception, the only one in Latin America. The main lines of research are Surface Integrity, Manufacturing Processes, and Dynamic Behavior.

In 2017, Fraunhofer IPK and CCM-ITA initiated a cooperation considered a great success, especially due to the number of high-impact projects conducted by these institutions in Brazil. This cooperation, named Fraunhofer IPK Project Office @ITA, aims primarily at the joint acquisition and implementation of industrial research and development projects, combining the resources and expertise of both CCM-ITA and Fraunhofer IPK. More recently, in early 2021, CCM-ITA also became an accredited EMBRAPII Unit for the development of projects in the area of Power Transmission Systems. The Unit operates in an integrated and interdisciplinary manner across the areas of Design, Manufacturing, and Monitoring and Control of Transmission Systems.

The multidisciplinary RD&I project scope is co-designed with our partners to mitigate their needs throughout the value chain, leading to sustainable innovation in areas from corporate management and production systems to product development, manufacturing and automation technologies.
